Reaction to the video: Sight
I thought the “Sight” video was very cool, albeit somewhat creepy. The setting was futuristic and the times in which the character’s lived seemed to completely rely on technology. Something I thought was interesting is the commercial on the TV when the female announcer said that people want to live more, feel more, and see more. I think that was the entire point and key to the video right there. People want to experience more and more and the Sight program allowed them to do anything they wanted to—except it was all imaginary. They could do and experience anything they wanted to, but in reality they were in empty rooms. “Sight” brought daydreaming to the utmost level.
The video also seemed a bit depressing to me. These people want to live out these exciting lives and do great things, but they are literally blind to reality because they only see what some computer program is showing to them. It’s sad that nothing they saw or experienced was real. The scene in the kitchen with the cucumber also showed to me how perfection-oriented the people were in this make-believe world. All the guy did wrong was cut diagonally and since he didn’t have a perfect score, he threw away the entire cucumber. He was upset over such an insignificant thing because it wasn’t perfect.
Overall, the video was very thought provoking. It made me wonder about how dependent people are getting on technology and if we would really sacrifice reality for make believe worlds were we can be and accomplish anything in we could dream up.
